E-Book Pricing Strategies

E-Book Pricing Strategies

E-Book Pricing Strategies. There are a few different methods for determining the worth of your e-book and correct price for it. Let's first look at your ultimate goals with your e-book.

If your goal is to get wide audience and maximum exposure, then you are aiming to draw potential customers to your business (products or service), or you are trying to establish your reputation, or you are trying to establish the credibility of your brand.

If this is your ultimate goal with your e-book, then you should set your price low. Don’t think about the profit from the e-book, think about the number of new customers you will attract.

This is a great pricing strategy to acquire new and long-term customers. Long-term customers will most likely buy from you on multiple occasions, but you must make sure that your e-book is of great quality and is helping readers to solve their problems.

If your goal is not to attract a wide audience, but to focus on profits from the e-book, then you should aim for a higher price. This means that your e-book is comprehensive, with a lot of high quality content with new information, references, and that covers new technology and techniques in your market niche.

Let’s now talk about e-book content in regard to second pricing strategy.

Firstly, you need to do some serious research on the needs and wants of your audience, so that you can model your e-book around it. If your e-book solves some particular problem in your niche market and this solution wasn’t explained in any other book, then you will be able to price your e-book high and achieve high sales.

If your e-book answers tough questions from your niche in a new and unique way, you should price your e-book high. Just make sure the questions that your e-book answers are the ones that are important and relevant to the majority of your niche market audience. In this way you will be able to achieve larger profits but with less customers.

Also, if you are introducing a brand new technique, tool or technology (this means that what you are writing about is not a common knowledge), you are able to sell your e-book at a higher price.

High pricing strategy is a short-term strategy. It is valid as long as your e-book offers unique content and solutions. When your competition starts providing on the same subjects, it is the time that you lower your price. So, it is a good advice to you that you think in advance for how long you will keep high price.

Summary – If you want to make larger profits and reach a wide audience, aim for audience that seek simple general advice and easy solutions at a lower price.

If you want to charge higher prices per e-book and generate profit that way with fewer, but more sophisticated audience, then your e-book should be focused on solving particular problems and be unique in its content and the way it was presented. Start with higher price and, when the time comes, discount the book.

Anyway, if your e-book solves problems in your market niche, and if it introduces new techniques and methods, you e-book will most likely bring in both, traffic and profits.

How Much To Charge for E-Book

How Much To Charge for E-Book

If you don’t write an e-book for promotion, but for sale, you need to carefully analyze your competition’s pricing on similar content, and decide on the price. Finding the right price is essential to the success of the sales of your e-book. So, how much to charge for e-book?

If you price your e-book too low, people will think it's of little value, and they will not purchase it. If you price your e-book too high, compared to your competitors on similar content, people will also not buy it.

Let’s look at the first scenario when you price your e-book too low. People that buy your e-book will create not much income for you and you would need a lot of copies to be sold before you reach the point of break-even (the point where your income break expense barrier and you actually start profiting).

In the second scenario, when you price your e-book too high, you will not see much of sales and you will be forced to lower the price in order to gain on sale. This is totally unprofessional move which will hurt your reputation.

We are talking here about e-book, but same principle applies to any other kind of product - physical or digital. Here we are not talking about yearly sales and discounts. The marketing process is the same for all, generally talking.

To choose the right price for your e-book is one of the most critical parts of the marketing process. As I pointed out earlier, carefully analyze your competition’s pricing on similar content, then inform yourself about purchasing power or your audience for that specific product, do the promotion of your e-book on a regular basis before it was published in order to get feedback from your audience, survey your current customers, and consult with your associates (JV partners, affiliates, etc.).

The points made –

- Analyze your competitors’ pricing on similar content
- Inform yourself about purchasing power or your audience
- Promote your e-book on a regular basis before it was published to get feedback from
  your audience
- Survey your current customers
- Consult with your associates (JV partners, affiliates, etc.)

The best method to estimate the price is the survey. Send a survey to your current customers and ask for their opinion in terms of price. You can do this by creating a sales page for your e-book, and instead of including price, you add a link to survey questionnaire. Formulate questions carefully, so that they aid you in price estimation.

So, how much to charge for e-book? Never under price or overprice your e-book. I know, it’s not an easy task, but please do your research.

The price should be targeted at bringing in profits, but you should never forget that price is one of the factors that people use in judging the value of your e-book before they make a decision to buy it or not.

When you are determining the price for your e-book, you are evaluating content value. You are putting a price on the value of content.

Since e-books are fairly new way of publishing books (digital form), many will argue on pricing method. Since they are in digital form, the value of an e-book might be confusing to the average person.

A printed book is a physical object that you can hold in your hand, and store on your bookshelf. You can do the same with e-book if you print it yourself on paper. So people are looking at e-books in different light. It is true that the cost to produce an e-book is so low in comparison to cost to produce printed book, but base on which books are priced is the value of the content.

So, that makes pricing of e-book particularly difficult, and in order to determine actual worth of your e-book please consider above mentioned points. So, the question - how much to charge for e-book? is up to your judgement.

Few Tips on Creating Your Own Digital Product

Create Your Own Digital Product

There are millions of different things, different niches that somebody can exploit and create, but still most people are only promoting affiliate programs. I don't have anything against being an affiliate, but if that is all you are doing, then you are not using all your capabilities. If you create your own product, you can start your own affiliate program.

Choosing a niche is not an easy task to do, but when you find one close to your interest and skills, it can be very rewarding. No matter what experience you have in online marketing, you can create a profitable niche product in your own expertise area and sell it on the web. Here I will walk you through how to create your own product and market it.

Throughout this text I am referring to digital niche products - e-book and course mainly. I will explain how to create a digital product and how to sell it on the net. I have sold both digital and physical products on the web, but digital product has so many advantages over physical product, and no disadvantages. What I mean by digital niche product is that it can be downloaded from the internet, but physical product must be mailed out for each order.

In this text, I write about things that I have done. I wrote this article because I constantly receive emails on what is the best and quickest way to make money online. I have to say that there is NO overnight way to instant success. It doesn't exist. It is true that producing and selling on net your own product brings substantial income, but it also involves a lot of effort to produce it and to organize sales using software tools and services to get there. This investment of time, knowledge and effort is essential to start, but after you launch the product you will profit from it. You done your job and now into months and years to come you will still profit from it. Consider that as a passive income. In short, you put your effort to produce the product in start and benefit from it in the future.

Product Idea Testing

When you have chosen a niche market, you have to find out what people in that niche want and what is of most interest to them. While researching that, keep in mind where your expertise can fit in. Always remember that whatever you do is to help and assist people in your niche. Give the best of yourself. Your knowledge will provide quality to others and certain amount of uniqueness if you have many competitors there. People will always remember your uniqueness and your input and will respect you for that.

Firstly, screen your competition and after the screening it is time to screen your targeted niche market to see what is that they are looking for and where your expertise can help them to solve their problems. With this research you will get information that will help you shape up and improve your product.

Create a list of product ideas that you consider relevant, regardless if its e-book or service or something else. Make an initial list, which you will narrow down later during research when you receive feedback.

Ask as many people as you can and observe their reactions, comments and suggestions regarding your product characteristics. During this process, you will see what ideas are good and what are bad so you will narrow down your initial list of ideas and end up with just few accepted ideas from your audience. Those left on the list are those on which you will focus to create a product.

If you do not find out what people want, and create a product on a hunch, you could end up with a product that will have weak sales and that would be a waste of time for you. Well the truth is that every product has his buyer, but you are interested in more sales so this is a pretty important step.

Creating Written Documents

This is probably the most popular way to go, but not necessarily the best for everybody. This would consist of an e-book, online course, special report, or whatever else that you will write and package into a product.

My first suggestion is not to write a book, better write a course. A book has nowhere near the value that a course does. A step-by-step course is the best option if you are choosing this path. If you can show the customer that you can solve their problem in an easy step-by-step way, then you will have a very good chance with your product.

Picking Your Topic

If you already know what to write about then just skip this paragraph. If you are not knowledgeable in a certain area, just ask yourself a simple question - what I know that others will benefit from? And what you have to do is to take the idea that you come up with, and turn it into as many product ideas as you possibly can. Rearrange it into every variation that you can think of. This isn't hard to do, just write down your ideas, whatever they may be.

If you are not much into writing, ask a friend of family member to help you with it, or ask anyone else to do the writing for you and skip to the next section. If you have topics and draft for your product and you don’t know where to start and how to do it you always can do outsourcing. Hire other people to do that for you. On my Resource page you can find the company that can find knowledgeable virtual assistant for you for a low price.

Writing Style

When writing a course, e-book, report, etc. it is desirable to take the direct approach at the person who is reading it.

If you have ever read a book on how to write ad copy, use these techniques when writing your info product. Be direct, use short sentences, use familiar words, use sub-headlines to break up long articles, etc. You want to keep your reader’s attention.

Don't ramble. Try to stay on the subject. There are people that get irritated when they think they are about to read something under the headline of the article, and it goes into another subject that is way off topic.

Writing Process

You will not be able to write a whole document in just few days no matter how small that document is estimated to be and no matter how fast you type. Even if you do finish it in a few days, then you will have left out a lot of stuff that you have on your mind, but couldn't access it during that short writing period. This is basically just how it works.

Your brain only remembers certain things at certain times. When you spread out your writing over the course of a week or two, then your brain will access different parts of your memory, which will help you create a more detailed version. What I do is that I write as much as I can in one day, then the next day I will re-read it and start writing more. When I re-read it, it will trigger more ideas about what I have just read.

I also tend to just write the shell of my product all at once, then go back and add more detail to it. Write down all of the chapters of your course or e-book, then go through and write the first 1 or 2 paragraphs to starting articles of each chapter. Then when you finish the shell, go back and add more detail to each chapter. I wrote about this process in other posts.

How to Prepare E-Book for Business Promotion

Prepare e-book for business promotion

Prepare e-book for business promotion. One of the best promotional tools in online business is e-book. Let assume that you already have an online business with a well done website or blog, and a quality product(s) or service(s). It is natural that your knowledge and expertise in that area (market niche) will be appreciated by potential customers. People would like to hear your opinions, your expertise, and in general, where you stand on the matter.

When you write an e-book and share knowledge that you already have as a business owner in specific market segment (niche), you doesn’t just educate people, you also promote your business. E-book is one of the most powerful ways to promote your business – products and/or services. E-book is the perfect way to reach the largest audience.

E-book will not only promote your business, it will help you make a name for yourself, for your brand and for your company, and establish you as an expert or knowledgeable person in your field.

Every business is specific in its own way, and every business has its own complexity. If your business is a complex venture, when writing an e-book, you should be focused on one specific area of your business, not the whole process.

Here is a good reason for that. First of all, not everybody is interested in the whole operation, so they can be bored with the rest of the e-book, or they will not find the part they are interested in. Second of all, people don’t like to read long books. They tend to read only material related directly to their problem.

Divide the material you want to put in e-book in sections covering one business segment at the time. You will end up writing a few e-books, but your prospects will get the segment they are interested in. Anyway, e-books are never intended to be comprehensive. People need advice that is easy to read and easy to understand.

Before you start writing your e-book, make sure you have a clear target. Take a time to find out what really is your target market segment (niche), what exactly they do, what they want, what problems they have and what solutions they are seeking. Then make an overall plan how to meet their needs and craft your e-book according to that.

Note - When writing an e-book, do it in a step by step style, so that each step is clear to the reader and easy to understand.

At the end of the e-book, ask your readers to share the e-book with others if they found it to be valuable. Also, ask for testimonials.

All we talked about above relates to any business, I mean selling online physical products or digital products and using e-books as a promotional tool.

Prepare you e-book for business promotion and promote your new e-book on –

- Your website/blog – first of all
- Social Media
- Forums and Communities where your audience hangs out, and
- Free websites for e-book promotion

One of the most prevailing reasons people reads e-books is to find information on how to improve their own business, and how to turn their businesses into a profit-making venture.

It is also advisable to produce an e-zine (electronic magazine), or a newsletter, on weekly, bi-weekly or monthly basis. It will help a lot your business promotion. You can look at “Email List Maintenance Methods” and “Affiliate Marketing Strategies” in sections e-zines and newsletters for more information.

How to Make Your E-Book User Friendly

Make Your E-Book User Friendly

Make your e-book user friendly. When you write e-book, make sure that your writing is engaging, not boring. Here I am not talking just about text, but also other things that make e-book interesting and engaging. Use photos, graphs, testimonials and anecdotes to keep your readers interested, and make them turn the page.

Break up the density of the page with highlighted tips or quotes in separate windows. Make the background color of those windows in a different color than the page, and use bigger font size, and/or different font than the page dominant font.

It is also good to use sidebars for quick/brief information. In e-books, if sidebars are used, it is mostly used just one sidebar - left or right sidebar (not both of them).

When you write a text, write it casual and in a direct way like you are addressing the reader directly. Don’t write in the formal tone like textbooks are made, because we all respond better to conversational tone and feeling that the writer is talking directly to us.

We learned in English classes in school that the sentences have to be long and contain all the elements. Also they teach us that paragraphs have to be long too, and contain a full explanation of the subject. Well, in online business that is not the case anymore. Websites/blogs and e-books are written in a different way.

When we are talking about websites/blogs and e-books, length and structure of your sentences should be broken up so you don’t put your readers into sleep. Long sentences and the sentences with same length and structure intend to bore readers, which result in lost of interest.

Of course, good writing takes practice. The more you write, the better your writing will become. Don’t worry, in time your writing skills will become better and better.

When I am starting to write e-book, I first make a schedule. Then I put on paper all that will be included in e-book. Then I break all that into chapters and assign themes to each chapter. Try to write at least one page per day.

In most cases, e-books are read on the screen. Not so much people first print e-book on paper and then read it. So, you have to think about readers’ eyes. If the background is too bright white, then reader’s eyes will get tired fast.

Also, in a case that your text is too dense, reader’s eyes will also get tired. Break the text into smaller paragraphs, use blank spaces between them, use fonts in bigger sizes, insert pictures and graphs, etc. Again, if text is too condensed and the whole page is without resting places for eyes, reader’s eyes get tired very fast.

Find a font that is easy for the eyes. At the same time, text should be large enough to be read easily on the screen, but small enough so that the whole page fit on a computer screen. I suggest that you don’t use more than 2 different font families. If you use many different font families, it will have a negative impact on reader’s focus and concentration. Experiment with this to find the right combination.

To make your information easy to absorb and understand use lists, both bulleted and numbered. In this way the information is more viewable and also gives a rest to the reader’s eyes. Besides, lists are easier to remember than plain text.

After all e-book text done, don't forget to run a spell check and grammar check. This is very important for both, your website/blog and your e-book. Today websites are checked and judged by search engines for their language correctness. Also, your e-book will be judged by readers in the same way. Don’t let your great work to be misjudged because of some small errors in spelling, grammar or punctuation.

NOTE - When you are designing the layout of every page, make sure that is made in an easy-to-read manner with enough resting places for the reader’s eyes.

When all are finished - text, pictures, graphs, design, layout, spell check and grammar check done, pack your e-book in PDF format and publish it online.

If you are not fan of writing, or you don’t have time for that, you can always do outsourcing. Please visit “Effective Article Marketing” section Writing Issues for more on outsourcing.

How to Use E-books for Promotion and Marketing

Use E-books for Promotion and Marketing

Use e-books for promotion and marketing. There are many ways to use your e-book to promote your business and market your products and services. As mentioned in an earlier post, investigate what your market segment (niche) need, discover what the specific goals and problems they have and figure out how to solve those issues. Then incorporate your valuable knowledge and information into your e-book. Either put that in new e-book, or update your existing e-book.

Beside other benefits, this will do great for your reputation, your brand and it will elevate the value of your business.

Furthermore, e-books can be broken down into a few different promotional materials. You can present your e-book in audio or video format, or you can make few special reports and make them available on your website/blog. You can put those special reports also on article directories to be visible to a wider audience. See “Effective Article Marketing” section.

Once posted on your website/blog, you can also use e-book as a free gift a) for opt-in to your email list, b) for making a purchase, c) for filling out a survey, etc.

A) Usual practice in online marketing is that you give a free e-book or a free special report to your website/blog visitors when they sign up for your newsletter or a free email course. Some argue about the positivity of that in relationship building terms, but I don’t. This is still good practice.

B) When people buy something online they expect some free gift or bonus. This is also usual practice in online marketing. So, no matter if you are selling digital or physical product, you make sure that they get that. In this case, it will be free e-book.

C) You need some medium to find out about your market segment potential, customers’ habits, behavior and motivators, and you need to gather marketing information. Ask your audience to fill the survey and give them e-book for free. Anyway, it is good to include survey at the end of your e-book and ask your readers about their opinions and other problems they want to solve. This will open up communication with them, and build relationships.

If you have a digital product, include an invitation with direct link in your e-book so that readers can download a trial version. If you sell physical products, include a discount coupon in your e-book. All those things increase the value of your e-book and, at the same time, promote and market your products.

In this way, you created a great promotional tool and cut cost and necessity for other promotional means. E-book will bring you new prospects for all products, as well as existing customers for new products. E-book is very flexible promotional medium.

Make sure that you keep your e-book up to date. Update it frequently as new information comes in, and techniques and technologies evolve in your niche. Follow market and industry trends, and report it. Add tips and advices that will help your readers in their everyday work, and you will see how good response you will have. And that is not just for now, you will benefit from it in years to come.

Put your e-book on a disc, and you will have an offline mean to distribute it.

NOTE – E-books are the powerful tool for promotion and marketing of your products and services. So, use e-books for promotion and marketing.

How Important E-Books Are

How Important E-Books Are

Ever since the beginning of the Internet, e-publishing become a new medium for sharing information. It started with technical manuals, software manuals, reports, and expanded to e-books of all sorts. Electronic publishing becomes so popular very quickly and electronic books were accepted as a new medium.

With improvements related to computer hardware and software, and new technologies around the Internet, everybody got a chance to enter the marketplace, even from their own home. People grab this opportunity and started small businesses. Over the years, many of them become millionaires, even billionaires.

Self-published e-book is a good way to start an online business. Every day, more and more people are accessing the Internet. This gives you a chance for promotion and sale of your e-book.

What makes e-books so important and unique -

• E-books are easy to produce with little or no cost. All you need is a good concept, understanding what your audience (from your market niche) needs and the time to transfer your knowledge into a book.

You can easily edit, design and publish your e-book at home. You don’t need a printing shop for that, all you need is the right software.

• E-books are easy to update and distribute online. For an update, all you need is to edit your original text and graphics, add new chapters, and publish it.

The software you need: a) text processor for text editing, b) graphic editor for photographs, c) graphic editor for technical drawings, and d) Adobe Acrobat to publish your e-book in PDF format.

• E-books are easy to store and they are immediately obtainable. If you are distributing your e-book from your website/blog, you can easily upload it in a safe directory on your hosting, and buyer/user can easily download it on his/her computer.

You can add links into e-book that will lead readers to your website/blog, to relevant posts, videos, podcasts, surveys, sales pages, etc. to expand the content of your e-book and to start communication and interaction with your audience. Those gathered marketing information you can use in many other aspects of your business.
